Iron-Boosting (Blood-Building) Latte

IMG_20140220_150611This month I’ve been coffee-free, so I’ve loved trying some of the awesome coffee substitutes out there. Occasionally I’ll recommend going caffeine-free to clients, based on how they’re feeling, so I wanted to challenge myself this month to find the best substitutes out there for them.

And while I’ve been impressed with some of the dandelion, goji and chicory substitutes out there, one of the substitutes I was most inspired by was a from a post from my friend (and fellow Holistic Nutritionist) Christine MacLeod (find her right over here).

I loved this recipe ESPECIALLY for women, because not only is it a substitute for coffee that’s safe throughout pregnancy, it’s also one that’s super-nourishing to women that suffer from low iron levels, it’s nourishing to athletes (who break down and re-build blood a little faster than the average joe 🙂 ) and it’s fantastic for women when they’re menstruating and post-partum.

So if you’re looking to LOVE your blood and boost your iron, jump in on this molasses, iron-loaded latte. It’s completely caffeine-free and JUST scrumptious.

Start slow with the molasses and build it up as you get used to the taste.

Ingredients:
1 tbsp. unsulphured molasses
pinch ginger
pinch cinnamon
pinch turmeric
8-10 ounces warm or frothed milk (almond, hemp, coconut, the options are endless!)

Stir everything together, so that the slightly spicy herbs take out the sweetness of the molasses and BAM, you’ve got yourself a Blood-Loving Latte!

Happy Warmth!
Nathalie
